Seekae – ‘Snax’

Sydney three piece Seekae (pronounced C.K.) are a tough band to pigeonhole musically. Using a variety of sounds – including synthesizers, glockenspiels and spoons – they create simple, experimetal(ish) and oft-gorgeous downbeat instrumental hip-hop.

The above track is taken from their (self funded and produced) debut record, The Sound of Trees Falling on People.

    Breathtaking. Simply beautiful…

  2. ewscare says:

Tough to pigeonhole musically? I’d put them in the ‘blatant Boards of Canada rip-offs’ pigeonhole personally.

  3. Sanch says:

These guys are the hottest group in the world. They play a mean live show too. No computers! They are playing at the Hopetoun this Friday.

BTW the track linked on here is called “Snax” not “Centaur”. :/

Seekae have taken BoC to a new level, and it’s the tip of the iceberg.

    Enjoy x

  6. Jimi Ninja says:

I personally always feel slightly unfulfilled by instrumentals.
The music is awesome, but someone could add a wonderful extra element with some vocals…

  7. sanch says:

Jimi somehow i know that there is a version of this track with vocals/rapping which will be released in the coming months. Somehow.

    I want download. Now.

Very well put together. I can hear influences of lamb. Very natural feel for something so produced.
Does music HAVE to be pigeonholed??!!
Dont put vocals in it. Leaving it open without a voice puts the listener in a more personalised state, listening close to the melody and rythum.
Well done… want to hear more of it.

Just got on to the music of these guys, and it’s a breathe of fresh air for Australian Electronica, sure you can hear the influence of Boards of Canada, but there’s also elements of Autechre and Aphex Twin too… these guys dont sound contrived, they’ve added their own personality to the tracks on their Album and I can’t wait to hear more from them as they develop their sound.

Leave the vocals off, the music is rich enough as it is.

Tough to pigeonhole??? There are SO many bands in this genre (which is awesome) that quite frankly I don’t understand why we haven’t ‘until now’ had some artists in Australia break into the ‘mainstream’ and be widely recognised by bloggers and reviewers. The genre is downtempo, triphop, electronica, IDM, whatever you want to call it, it’s fundamentally electronica. Other bands similar to Seekae are Four Tet, Boards Of Canada, Massive Attack, B.Fleischmann, The Postal Service, ยต-ziq, at times Squarepusher, Moderat, Wisp, and probably at least 1/3rd of the artists on Warp and Rephlex. It’s time the music industry woke up and started recognising modern IDM / electronica artists as a real, marketable genre — especially in Australia.
