Don’t say we’re not fast on our news uptake.

Was pondering whether this was worth posting after 10am given that this probably isn’t news to anyone by now, but I decided it would remiss not to.

In case you just woke up, or your whole Internet is broken and the only site you can access is whothehell.net, below is the line-up of unknown, up-and-coming acts for a new boutique festival called Splendour In The Grass.

Splendour happens Fri 30th of July – Sun 1st of Aug at Woodford, just outside Brisbane. Tickets go on sale 9am Thurs 6th of May, but you probs just buy them at the gate anyway.

Acts after the jump.

Makeover Triple Zed!

, , No Comment

Brisbane community radio station 4ZzZ FM have put the call out to artists worldwide to sexify their building, once the home of the Brisbane arm of the Communist party. From the presser:

Banksy eat your heart out!!! The legendary Brisbane radio station, 4ZzZ, is looking for someone to unleash their creative juices on the biggest blank canvas they’ll ever have – the front of Zed Towers!!!

My housemates and I all did stints at ZzZ and none of us have ever heard the building referred to as Zed Towers, but maybe it’s a new thing they’re trying to get happening.  Anyway, if you’d like to paint something cool on a fuck-off big building on a main road in Brisbane, send an email with your design and why you’d like to do it to info@4zzzfm.org.au by 30 May.

Lisa Mitchell wins the AMP 2010

In case you missed the news, Lisa Mitchell has won the Australian Music Prize for 2010, taking away $30k cash for her efforts. I’ve not heard her debut album, ‘Wonder,’ but am told it’s actually pretty good for a former Australian Idol star. Regardless, I’d probably feel more comfortable with this prize going to smaller, independent bands like it has in the past (The Drones, ECSR, The Mess Hall) who could use the money more than Ms Mitchell. But hey, congrats to LM. Hopefully she can produce something worthwhile with the moolah.

Sounds Loud Festival 2010

, , No Comment

If you like local music you will like this festival.

If your weekly disposable income is spent on rent, goon, Ikea furniture and cheap Thai food, leaving you no money for play – you will like this festival.

If you sound like Maculay Culkin and are still waiting for your southern regions to develop properly, you will like this festival.

If your athletic ability has been reduced to jumping fences at gigs and if you take pride in ripping off door stamps with thick texta, then you will also like this festival.

Fresh off the demand for some decent FREE all ages gigs -comes the brand new SOUNDS LOUD FESTIVAL 2010.

A decent stash of Triple J favourites are headlining the bill; Bluejuice, Philadelphia Grand Jury and Calling All Cars. Joining them will be Hungry Kids of Hungary, Behind Crimson Eyes, Yacht Club DJS, Scientists of Modern Music, Seth Sentry, and more.

Check out www.myspace.com/soundsloudfestival for all the details.

Philadelphia Grand Jury – ‘The Good News’ (Yacht Club DJ Remix) (mp3)

Listen to

In case the large poster above didn’t tip you off just yet, Club NME is coming to Australia this Feb – and is bringing with it Andy Rourke of The Smiths for a DJ set. I have no idea what he is like as a DJ, but he was in The Smiths and you’ll probably be able to touch him at least briefly. “Hey,” I hear you say, “neither Andy Rourke or NME are Australian.” You are correct, have a gold star. Club NME is fortunately taking some cool local acts with it as it travels down the east coast. Joining Mr Rourke will be a live set from the Philadelphia Grand Jury and DJ sets from Yacht Club and Purple Sneakers DJs.

In case you can’t read the above poster for whatever reason, the dates are:

Thurs 25 Feb – The Empire, Bris
Fri 26 Feb – Hi Fi, Melb
Sat 27 Feb – Manning Bar, Syd

Apparently this is to be a regular thing on the gig calendar so keep your eyes out for future Club NME nights.
