A very nice piece of Oz folk, perfect to watch whilst eating Easter eggs. Directed by Richard Berney in Perth, Western Australia using almost one shot along a back alley with spunky kids doing their thing. Keep an eye on the roof too!

Stream the record here – Melt (2012) by Young Magic
Young Magic formed in 2010 when singer and producer Isaac Emmanuel left Australia to travel and make music, whilst fellow Melbourne ex-pat Michael Italia was doing the same thing, and they agreed to meet in New York. Together with Indonesian-born vocalist Melati Malay, they created their new LP ‘Melts’.
There is a tribal rhythm that guides you into this record. Founded through the experiences of globetrotting and produced with layered beats and soft distant vocals that seems to have an unwound Brooklyn feel, which makes sense as that’s where they’ve laid they backpacks. The tempo varies and beats break and pulse into a hypnotic sequence that evens finds some Washed Out moments midway in Jam Karet. Let’s hope these guys play some shows back home sometime soon.

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard – Bloody Ripper by singhalamusic
Following on from last year’s debut EP ‘Willoughby’s Beach’, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have released the first track from their new studio sessions, ‘Bloody Ripper’. They take to the tour van late April to blow out some oz venues so be sure to get along to the party. Also this is probably one of the best tour posters I’ve seen in a while.
29 April – Bar Open, Melbourne
4 May – The National Hotel, Geelong
5 May – The Edinburgh Castel, Adelaide
10 May – Goodgod Small Club, Sydney
12 May – Judith Wright Centre, Brisbane
19 May – Brisbane Hotel, Hobart
Gnome – ‘Dew Drop’
Deep electronic beats, squiggly tweaks and pulsing glitches with the gorgeous harmonies of siblings Elias and Freya Berkhout make up the new track from Gnome called ‘Dew Drop’. Freya is one half of the wonderful Sydney band kyü and between scoring a short film and working on a new kyü record, she has composed this infectious sound. Yep, I’m into this.

Taxidermy Hall – ‘Lasting Words’ feat. Winston & Goldstein
Music people talk some shit at the best of times but some of the metaphors churned out to describe this neat new track by Taxidermy Hall are pretty funny. I won’t name and shame but a prominent music presenter must’ve been reading New Scientist at the time he made that crap up. Anyho, ‘Lasting Words’ has a sweet flow and a nice vocal addition by Jacqui Collager. This is not in the league of ‘Washed Out’ but it’s definitely worth a listen.

The Si Claros – ‘Diego’
I wanna help these folks out by dropping the ‘The’ from their name. Y’know like in that facebook movie – it’d be way cooler. And speaking of cooler – I’d also love this track to be mixed with a little more punch. It’s sweet surf pop for sure but ‘Best Coast’ pretty much ruled this sound for the last year, which makes this track seem a little too relaxed. But hey, they are from Newcastle so who can blame them. Look forward to hearing the whole record.
