Major Leagues 1

I ran out of lazy adjectives and miscellaneous blogger labels to describe Brisbane bands a long time ago (see also ‘tweewave,’ ‘summertime pop’ etc.). Here are some awesome studio photos Major Leagues sent us recently. All the usual studio behaviour here; drop tuning, fondling pets and gazing dreamily into the camera while hanging off a wooden slat from the roof.

The band are capping off a big year touring with Jeremy Neale, The Preatures, landing the Australian support slots for Beach Fossils & Wild Nothing – and releasing their excellent debut EP Weird Season a few weeks ago. Not to mention, putting together the most appeasing video clip you’ll ever watch of a bunch of young people slobbering over tacos. A national tour has just been announced for early next year and Wagga via Osborne St pals The Ocean Party are tagging along for the ride. Contrary to the smug faces that appear in all of their press shots.. this looks like fun! Tour dates below.

LOOK: 2013 in Pictures

Total Control were pretty much my fav band to shoot over the years.

Total Control were my fave band to shoot over the years.

As 2013 winds up and my time as Photo Editor at Who The Hell comes to an end, I thought I’d give y’all a quick review of pictures that moved us this year as my farewell.

We have been lucky to share in the development of Rebecca Capp and Alan Weedon as they’ve honed their skills over the last couple of years.  I feel quite proud of the work we have shared this year, as well as and the expansion of the ‘Sequence’ into the blog has worked because these guys are so dedicated to making great images.

I’d also like to mention our new Sydney guy Jack Toohey who created an exceptional Sequence late in the year with Bligh Twyford-Moore.

Keep in touch here and thanks for reading xo.

SEQUENCE: Bligh Twyford-Moore

Bligh plays in Sydney band Post Paint, recently capped off a month-long stint hosting a Bill Murray ‘Murrathon’ for Fringe Fest – and was banned from the internet this week for uploading an image of Tony Abbott with a really small dick.

This guy has also turned ‘stalking’ into a literal art. Earlier this year, Bligh decided to begin painting portraits of all his internet friends. I’m not sure what number he’s up to, but he’s made his way out of Sydney because I found one of my shady internet snaps turned into a neat little portrait the other week. Thought we’d return the favour by enlisting photographer Jack Toohey to turn up at Bligh’s Newtown terrance and trail him for a whole Sunday afternoon for our next SEQUENCE photo essay.

If you’d like to contact Bligh for commissions, click here. If you’d like your portrait painted, click here. If you want to know what happens when a photographer returns with a rad set of photos and a portrait by an artist completely stoned, then keep scrolling.
