The Cat Empire – ‘No Longer There’

This song, which is in the very broad neighbourhood of a Coldplay ballad, speaks volumes about The Cat Empire’s confidence. Clearly, the ska hop kings feel their audience will follow them down any old path of musical whimsy they fancy having a stab at, no matter how random or self-indulgent. For cahones alone, they deserve a round of applause (but it’s hard to clap and block your ears at the same time).

self indulgent is corrct. why do blog such shite ? obviously you have taste, why document music that is average?

  2. Alex says:

I once enjoyed the music of the Cat Empire, in a carefree whimsical manner anyway. This song is just utter tripe, and now that they’re promoting on Sunrise you know it’s all down hill from here. The only thing they had going for them was their brass section and awesome keyboardist. Take that out and this is what you’re left with, a self-fulfilling lead singer.

Why can’t people accept that bands want to add some diversity to the mix? Alex, comment all you want but just because a band seems to be getting a bit more popularity doesn’t detract from the quality of their music or necessarily add to their egos… you can’t even pretend to know what these guys are like as people.
