Lady Strangelove – ‘Rotate (Part 2)’ (mp3)

Listen to

It’s been a while since I’ve heard a band actually do old-skool psychedelica. There’s been a booming undercurrent of psychedelica-inspired bands in my home town of Sydney, but who knew they actually did it properly in Adelaide? Lady Strangelove are a funky rainbow cocktail of Wolf & Cub style rhymths, Hendrix inspired lead guitars which screech throughout and delay-heavy vocals which bring to mind Led Zep’s Robert Plant and former Pink Floyd vocalist Syd Barrett.

They call their music “psychedelica dance-rock” or “prog-dance”. It’s all very 60s technicolour/acid inspired with a touch of Mars Volta and The Music thrown in. I’d love to see these guys play live if they didn’t live so far away. Here’s hoping they come by the Annandale Hotel sometime soon.

Just had my first ‘taste’ of the Lady Strangelove phenomenon! Looking forward to seeing them at Meredith Music Festival! Been living in London for 2 years and on homeward journey with the gig my first welcome home event.. Bring em on!!!!

Holy crap. Tight instrumentals and an organic arrangement that I can only compare to a fictional live show with members of Black Sabbath who showed up at a very early proto-Dead jam session – all recorded by Al Jourgenson, on weed. Shit, does that make any sense to you?

Ahem, I’ve seen them live a number of times in Melbourne at The Espy and Revolver. Oh man they’re good. They jump around stage and when their set appears to be finished they’ll jump back up on stage and have a huge 10-15 minute jam, often with their support band who will grab any sort of instrument and go crazy with them. The two times I’ve seen them they played and did this jam with local Melbourne act and friends of Lady Strangelove, Jarvis. I’m not sure whether you have done a feature on them but I’m guessing not as they haven’t got any recorded material so the only way you would’ve heard them is through seeing them play live. Which is an amazing thing indeed. Definitely worth seeing if you get a chance.
