In the music hierarchy of the Australian scene, Melbourne’s Damn Arms sit in the uber-cool section. Just look at those haircuts and fencing gettup.

Then listen to their mix of dirty guitars, hi-hats on the upbeat and new-wave synth sounds and it all screams COOL!! Typically, fashionable bands shit me because often it’s more about style than substance, but I picked up a pre-release copy of Damn Arms’ debut full-length The Live Artex expecting to be tired of it after 2 songs but you know what, it’s good. Really good actually. They’ve been honing their rock-meets-dance sound back since when they were ripping off The Faint under the moniker Snap! Crakk! Now they’ve fashioned their own sound that will no doubt appeal to the Aussie-loving UK market as well as their multitude of fans at home.

Get your hair cut asymmetrically, throw on your Ksubi’s and hit the dance floor at your local pub.

You fucking idiot… So everything new these days is “hipster” go back to your John Butler cd your were learning to play. Just shows that you don’t actually listen to music but instead just write off bands by their image, Would they be more tasteful to your eyes if they wore distressed cargo pants from cotton on and diesel shoes?

dom alessio – you are just what the world doesnt need. another self-righteous blogger making asinine, one-dimensional observations about bands from the safety of your bedroom like the coward you surely are. this review is constituted by a petty observation about a haircut, the entirely unhelpful identification of the genre, and the now-mandatory glib line in conclusion, which is conspicuously identifiable as an attempt to assert your casual superiority over those who have bothered to record an album (and dare to cut their hair ‘weird’). the internet has unleashed your type onto us all. we wish you’d fuck off.

  3. Dom Alessio says:

It’s a damn fine album though.

  4. CaitX says:
