Lisa Mitchell wins the AMP 2010

In case you missed the news, Lisa Mitchell has won the Australian Music Prize for 2010, taking away $30k cash for her efforts. I’ve not heard her debut album, ‘Wonder,’ but am told it’s actually pretty good for a former Australian Idol star. Regardless, I’d probably feel more comfortable with this prize going to smaller, independent bands like it has in the past (The Drones, ECSR, The Mess Hall) who could use the money more than Ms Mitchell. But hey, congrats to LM. Hopefully she can produce something worthwhile with the moolah.

While her album is ‘ok’, probably way too many filler tracks and kinda inconsistent, her live show is quite lacklustre. Think her nervous Idol shows except on a smaller scale. Her seemingly lack of confidence is more annoying than cute.

i agree with leia as day follows night was not too good at all the songs blended together. they practically all used the same instrument, the same tonality, the same melodic contours. at least with Lisa mitchells album Wonder there were changes in styles and and instruments.

and lisa was herself just at the start of last year, a struggling artist, who wasnt really heard of
