haha, i struggle with the same thing. I find her a bit hit and miss, and those hits and misses are fairly extreme for mine.

i think she needs to stop pretending to be Kate Bush so much

I think her ‘Circular Breathing’ EP is sensational, especially that tracks Out and In and Apartment. Make it Last is really catchy, but I don’t really like Words.

Think Kate is a great talent, her vocal range is unbelievable. Not sure if its available online anywhere but she performed an amazing cover Talking Heads Psycho Killer on Spicks and Specks’ Halloween Special last week. Well worth the listen.

i say this in the nicest way possible.

if i look at her too closely, especially her face, i freak out.
the fringe and the nose scare me – she sort of looks like a twisted doll, and plays off that what with the dresses and stuff.

see i liked her song apartment heaps, but words doesn’t do it for me.

simon’s right with the kate bush thing.

To understand the whole KMH persona you need to see her live. The recordings that she has done in past are IMO very good but no where as good as when she performs in concert.
Once you have seen her live the recorded output begins to make more sense.
I challenge her most ardent detractors to go and see her live and not be impressed.

Hey peeps…i’m probably going to get in trouble for saying this but anyways
We are heading out to do a couple of shows with her next week.
I must admit i didn’t really dig her at first her but saw the full band at Peats Ridge last year and walked away a real fan.
The album is really intersting. I think they really tried to make it accesible to alot of people and i can’t fault her for that. the production is interesting as i think they could have down-played the kate bush factor a bit more but none the less it’s well worth a listen…

Kate Miller Heidke is phenomenal. What really makes me angry is that everybody asks for something different, but when we get it, all we do is criticise. I saw her live at the Currumbin Soundlounge in QLD on Thursday night the 6th of December 2007 and she was absolutely unreal. She literally blew the house down. She is inventive, talented and beautiful, even up close. Just because she doesn’t fit the perfect mould of what’s considered attractive in the music industry does not mean she is ugly. I think she is extremely attractive., especially in real life. She is funny and friendly and man can she sing. I agree, see her live, then and only then are you equipped to make a judgement.

I absolutely love her and her music, she is so different from the usual little “pop” wannabe queen, or all the other female singers that can only do well by wearing bikinis and selling their bodies in their music videos….

She is brilliant, her voice, her appearance, she’s so unique, and she is Kate Miller-Heidke not Kate Bush, she has started a completely different music technique, which the others would only hope to have a little of…..
I am just so sorry that I live so far away…I’m in South Africa and I can’t even get one of her CD’s in a local music store….
So I rely on her website, and “my space” to listen to her music!

I don’t know much about her… But as said earlier the tunes are pretty catchy, but she’s also quite obscure, which I personally love! I think that unfortunately (She does have a lot of talent) she may just become another one of those singers that has a few hits, that after a while become really… Really annoying. Such as Bob Sinclair or Mika.

Up until last week i had not took much notice of Kate Miller-Heidke, anyway i happened to be walking past the Rocks in Sydney this Australia day and i was enchanted and mesmerised by her beautiful vocals, and i had to rush off and by her album… Now i think i have listened to it about 15 times.. Amazing, one of a kind and unique

    10/10 Love her

    A-Mazing.
Seriously, there are great singers and then there are those that remind you that you LOVE music – i was a fan of her album and not particularly the song Words but when i went to see her live, it blew me away – like watching a delicate genious at work – disappointing that she is considered a ‘support’ for Cyndi Lauper (who is a great artist but in all honestly not as relevant). I agree with those that have seen her live. its an experience – for even the biggest nay sayer.

I also saw Kate performing in the Australia Day concert at Circular Quay, when visiting Sydney recently on holiday. She was absolutely amazing ! Her vocal range and her stunning beauty are the very best. Her brilliant performance made my day !!

Kate is brilliant!! I love all her music even though i do agree that her hair is a bit strange… it looked fine before why did she change it? But I think anyone who doesn’t like some of her newer stuff like words and some of the more crazy songs only dislike it because it is more unique and less ‘mainstream’ than some of her previous songs like ‘apartment’ or ‘out and in’ also ‘make it last’ has less opera and less vocal range so everyone seems to like that more because it’s what the masses like. Personally I prefer her more unique songs because they are different and you’re not going to here songs like that ever again!!!! SHE ROCKS!!!!!!!! (But she should change her fringe a bit)

she sold out big time when she got her record deal.

I saw her many many times a few years back before she got signed, when she was just a mere normal brisbane artist playing small local gigs around the place, and LOVED her! I even got to meet her and chat to her for a bit and she signed a setlist for me. She seemed really nice, and genuine and just a normal human being.
Her earlier EPs are amazing and well worth buying if you can find them, but I HATE how she changed her appearance so much once she signed. She seems so fake now.

Even more than that, i HATE how she re-recorded “her” lovely old(er) songs in the newer style.

    She’s completely ruined for me.

She is truely amazing and i would never compare her to anyone, she is an honest and solid artist in her own right. Her style is not some collaberation of past female preformers, she is who she is…. and she is truely amazingly talented.

Sure, it’s even a style of music i thought i’d like, but it’s origanal raw and honest… and GOOD, that it drags you in and turns the whole music scene on its head!

Just wait and see where is little lady and her band gets. With backing from Sony BMG, although brilliant, i just hope they do not try and change her…. but lets face it, they backed her because she was different, and they knew the market will jump at it and embrace it. Her fashion and edia presence is as good as her music… plus she is humble and funny.

Good Luck to her i say, she is a new brilliant Australian artist that is enjoying herself, enjoying her band and is making some big heads with deep pockets stand up and take notice…..

I love Kate Miller-Heidke! I love her dress sence and her songs. I think she shows people that you can be different. I hate that how peole all try to be like celebs and she’s completly different. I like that about her! I saw her Pysco killer remix thing she did on Spicks and Specks and then i started listening to her other songs!
    She’s great!

I love her for being real – to herself, to her music and hey who said because you get a record deal you can’t have fun with your hair – for GOD’s SAKE!! It’s called evolution – we all do it, musician’s should do it as their life bloody.
    She’s amazing!!

I think KMH is amazing and Im obsessed with her music. I was really unsure about her and I wasnt sure i would be able to take her inlarge doses, but her album is amazing. I wasnt sure about words, but it really grew on me. Some of her ballads can be a bit boring, but some are sensational (eg space they cannot touch and out and in). Im gutted that i cant see her live. She truely is talented.

You guys are way off with the Kate Bush comparison. it’s just sexist bullshit, you hear a female voice with control in the soprano range and you think she’s copying Kate Bush.

If you’d actually ever listened to Kate Bush (I’ll wager you’ve probably heard 1 or 2 songs) you’d see that there’s almost no connection. You flaunt your small minded ignorance. Widen your horizons, people.

Oh well, I guess we’ll wait for her to become popular overseas so you can allow yourselves to like an Australian act that’s different.

I agree I think she sounds awful. I just don’t hear any soul or emotion in her voice. Her sound is very contrived and as a result I can’t connect with her music. It’s not to say she can’t sing but I just think that maybe her opera voice doesn’t convert over very well to pop. She just seems so aware of where her voice is going that she’s forgotten to add emotion…which to me is what music is all about. I also think her songs are silly and childish. The career advice song is lame…it’s also showing a bit of a poor attitude. The thing is Wes Carr got number one on the charts…so her lyrics in the song which say “I’m not jealous” probably mean she really is jealous. I’m not a huge fan of australian idol but i do think she is being nasty in her song.

oh and adding to Jules comment. I understand what he’s saying. She wears soooo much makeup and the horrible bleached blonde hair thing that she does look freakish. Genuinely good muso’s don’t need all that make-up stuff to make it….Tracy Chapman, Toni Childs, Beth Orton, Tina Arena, Celine Dion…etc.
I just prefer genuineness…KMH just screams fake to me.

i agree with simon, about how make it last is really catchy and it’s one of my fav songs by her, but i don’t like ducks don’t need sattellites coz it has no point and politics in space it also has no point. so yeah i still like her heaps though no matter her differences LOL

okay… for starters ducks don’t need sattelites is about how people are too obsessed with exploring space instead of fixing the earth we allready live on and politics in space is about how fustrated kate is about not growing up in the 60s cause it was her favourite era- i know this cause she personally said it at a concert i saw.
i’ve seen her live twice, most recently at the lyric theartre, whoever says she doesn’t have emotion in her songs doesn’t know what there talking about cause everyone was brought to tears when she sang ‘our song’ as the opening number because she put so much emotion into it and it was beautiful! that concert one of the most amazing things i’ve seen in my life and made me love and appreciate music soooo much more. i didn’t even think it was possible that someone could have such an amazing vocal range, let alone an amazing stage pressence!!! she got two encores at the end and two standing ovations. everyone who left that concert left with the utmost respect for her.
everyone needs to stop looking into tiny things like haircolour- saying that she’s sold out because she died her hair… oh please grow up!
    if you like her… great
but if you don’t than why are you even wasting your time complaining about something you hate… unporductive and useless.

i personally think that everyone has a right to personal preferance, but that is still no excuse to notbe able to admit how amazingly talented she is.
