Iconic Brisbane venue The Troubadour is closing at the end of the month. There had been rumblings around the Brisbane music scene about rising rents and the changing face of the Valley, but this is the biggest loss to the Valley’s live music precinct since The Rev became a dance club.
Here’s the presser from the venue’s website:
It’s news that will rock the Brisbane music community – the heart and soul of Brisbane’s music community, the iconic The Troubadour will be calling last drinks and closing its doors forever come the end of November.
In what will be a devastating blow to the town with a matter that has gone beyond the control of owners Jamie Trevaskis and Corinna Scanlon, the beloved music venue will close its doors on Sunday, November 21.
More information as to how the venue will be farewelled and why it is closing will be released in the very near future. The Troub crew would like to extend gratitude to every single band, artist and punter who has graced the venue in the last seven and a half years.
The future of “The Troubadour” name and recognisable aesthetic remains uncertain but for now, the dream is over.
See the bullshit for yourself right here.
Since opening in 2003, The Troub has played host to bands too numerous to mention. Small-time local bands and big-name international touring acts have squeezed onto the small stage and squinted at the crowd through the red stage lights (a photographer’s nightmare).
Share your favourite Troub lineups and memories in the comments.

Not australian, but Why? at the troubadour last year was definitely a highlight of my year.
I like how they end with “the dream is over,” just to make it that little bit more heartbreaking.
I guess this increases The Globe’s currency as a small-to-medium size venue in Brisbane.

My favourite gigs:
– The Gifthorse, The Paper and The Plane, Arrows in December 2009
– Hungry Kids of Hungary, Skinny Jean in 2008
– Big Sound Showcase 2008 featuring John Steel Singers, Gin Club and Jeff Lang

Matt – The Globe is in trouble as well.

If a single person ‘likes’ this, I will find them…

Not likely dude – The Globe’s gonna shut down too unless it can raise $160K. In one fell swoop Brisbane loses The Hangar, The Troubadour and potentially, The Globe. Hrmmm.

If I get this job in Brisbane I’m applying for, totally turning my house into a live music venue.

Hey dudes. From what I know, The Globe are out of their rough patch.
“Spokesperson for the Globe, Blaire Gillespie, said the Brunswick street theatre was in negotiations with their landlord to remain open until a new Fortitude Valley venue can be found.
Ms Gillespie said the theater had no plans to close it’s doors to the public as shows were booked until June next year.
“We have no intention of closing, we intend to open up a new venue,” she said.
More details on the Globe theatre contract to come early next week.”
Back on topic, this is indeed sad news 🙁

I was almost devastated when I heard the news, as The Troubadour had become my favourite live venue in Fortitude Valley.
My favourite acts to have performed there included The Hits, Texas Tea, Angie Hart, The Hungry Kids Of Hungary, Eleanor Angel, Ben Stewart, Emma Dean, and even The Pineapples From The Dawn Of Time.
The venues might die, but the music won’t. Rock on, Brisvegas!

I saw a ‘For Lease’ sign with a big ‘Leased’ sticker across it out the front of the Indie Temple, which has been dormant since forever.
I suppose it’s too much to hope that it will become a sweet live music venue. Especially since it’s kinda flanked by gross pubs/clubs.
