The Galvatrons – ‘Cassandra’

Listen to

Saw this band at Third Class, a trashy night club off Flinders Lane in Melbourne, just before I left for my overseas trip. I was tipped off by a few industry types to see this band so I had my bullshit detector on when I saw them. A friend of mine summed it up perfectly: “they were a great band with no great songs. Yet.” The lead singer Johnny is definitely a natural performer and quite entertaining to watch. Their whole “we’re a band from outta space” routine works well too with the 80s Van Halen riffs. There’s a lot of Wolfmother or Airbourne-ish retro novelty to it, which can always work as long as they’re the first ones to capitalise on it.

We’ll probably a lot more from them in the near future as they are rumoured to wrap up an Australian deal anytime now and the international labels offers are coming in. Once a year there are buzz bands like this who pick up worldwide deals before their 20th gig. Always interesting to watch how they handle all the sudden attention.

I saw these guys completely by accident yesterday at the Big Day Out (on my way to another gig), and they were easily the best gig of the day

Oh nooo I disagree! The Galvatrons are an abomination to music. They’re the ultimate in insincere, jokey Darkness style rock – the label are going to screw them of one album and then dump them once we’re all sick of the gimmick.

Saw them by accident on you tube. Their song “When We Were Kids” is a corker!! The deserve a lot of acclaim for that song alone. You can’t not like it.

Well done to them and all the best I say.

yawn. wank. boring. move along. hack. spew. whatever. I don’t know which is more disturbing – the pathetic attempt at grammatical prowess of the article author or the smiley glad hand posts felching their aura. Am sure they’ll sign to Modular…am also sure in 3 years time no one will remember and they will then re-invent as a spoken word neo-goth porn electro band from Uranus…or whatever Vice Mag would give 9 stars to.

Move over to the pits lane people…real artists are racing here!

Methinks the band found an old Pseudo Echo record in the attic.
Was crap in the ’80s,hasent changed.
But then again, the young folk of today will proclaim it as being a new sound..

I just saw this band last night supporting Cheap Trick and Def Leppard. They got my attention and thought they were great throwbacks to 80’s glam rock. They were thoroughly outdone by the other 2 which you would expect, but the learning experience will get them into the bigtime. It’ll be great to have an awesome Aussie Glam rock band, even if they are 20 -30 yrs too late.

These guys are fricken woeful. I get embarrassed watching them (they supported someone I saw recently). embarrassed that i may possibly be seen. Steer Clear if you have ANY musical taste.
