After spending latter months of last year being lulled into a lackadaisical malaise by Amaya’s last record, ‘Early Summer’, I’m stoked she’s back with a new tune. While Laucirica was on the road supporting Adalita on her national tour earlier this year, she’ll be heading out on a tour of her own for the release of new EP ‘Anywhere There’s You’ throughout October. She’s quite petite in stature, but all that dreamy open-road stuff gets amplified sevenfold live.

Amaya will be showcasing this week at BIGSOUND in Brissie, so if you industry types/general aficionados are loitering around, definitely recommend catching some tunes from this lady.

The Polar Knights @ Verge Festival

We’re talking darling indie-pop here – darling as in your first girlfriend, holding-hands-on-a-summer-day-but-never-kissing sweetness with a dash of hipster charm and a surprisingly mature style & implementation. They’re called Polar Knights, they’re punny & witty and also delightfully virginal for all their top-shelf presentation. Looking forward to their EP whilst tapping to this free-as-balls track, Burst at the Seams.

Their set wasn’t perfect, but it was honest and heartfelt, with real moments of (seemingly) emotional purity. One particular standout was City Fail, an ode to the spectacular failings of Sydney’s rail system – something I think we can all identify with. The venue itself was awesome – many thanks go out to the Verge Festival. I love a sneaky gazebo.

Matthew Colin’s World War – ‘Thieves’ (mp3)

Matt Palmer’s one of Brisbane’s most underrated songwriters.
He’s kept a pretty low profile since his band Dextor’s Conscience called it quits in 2009, but he hasn’t spent the past two years drinking beers and playing xbox in his jocks.

Rather, he’s ditched the American accent and upped the honesty in his new project is Matthew Colin’s World War.
His upcoming Living Room Project tour is exactly what it sounds like.
Matt will play living rooms around the country, and release the performances on DVD.

He’s coming to Sydney this weekend to play in a living room at Lindfield on Sunday night.
If you’re keen to go, you can purchase tickets over at Oztix. Once you’ve done that, you’ll get an email with the exact address.
He’s looking for a Saturday night show too – if you’re keen to have a nice dude playing great music, get in touch with him via the band’s Facebook page.

Matt is also playing shows in Yeerongpilly and Mitchelton in Brisbane. If you head along to any of these shows, you’ll be able to pre-order the DVD and pick up one of these bad boys.

White Palms – ‘Japanese Cymbals’

Sweet new tunes out of Brisbayne from upcoming producer Matt Cook. His EP ‘Japanese Cymbals’ strays the genres of electronica and instrumental hip hop, but you don’t need big headphones to enjoy it. Cook also has an upstart audio effects and electronics company, some of which presumably feature on the EP. It’s a very promising start and I look forward to seeing how his career progresses.

He’s launching his EP at Juggler’s Art Space in Brisbane this Saturday along with a solo gig by George from Seekae (my love for whom is well-documented and act as a handy comparison for White Palms). If I hadn’t just moved to Sydney I would be there with bells on. Get down there and check it out.
