Hunz – ‘Owl Highway’ (mp3)

‘Owl Highway’ is lifted from the Penny Time EP by Brisbane producer Hunz. WTH first posted about Hunz back in 2008 and since both Matt and Soph have added to the record, now it’s my turn. ‘Owl Highway’ will be released on the forthcoming Hunz/Mr. Maps split 7″ out in July on lofly recordings. This track is really cool. In fact the whole EP is pretty sweet. Hunz created these tracks for an iPhone skating game so what was essentially a soundtrack has been released as a seven track EP. Featuring the typical 8 bit gamer sound but with an emotional progression making these tunes unique and addictive. Sure, there is a nostalgic gaming quality to the vintage sound but their is also a narrative that draws you in and holds interest. Check out the two bands on the split 7″ playing here:

Pigeon – ‘Oh Hebe’ Video

YouTube Preview Image

‘Oh Hebe’ is the new single from Pigeon, a band from Brisbane that have ripped up the festival circuit and landed the QLD support slots for Van She. ‘Oh Hebe’ is not a typical indie dance track. It has a jarring vibration and slamming drum beat that is a bit twisted and I can see these guys up there with Art vs Science and winning plenty of JJJ love. They have heaps of shows coming up so check em:

The Jungle Giants – ‘She’s a Riot’ (mp3)

Tra La La, La La La La… oh what a Monday afternoon ditty. ‘She’s a Riot’ is a little piece of bubble gum from the pretty Jungle Giants. A sweet melody that tingles the back of your tongue as you blow smiles of happiness, dancing around you bedroom in your underwear like Cameron Diaz in Charlie’s Angels. The Jungle Giants EP “She’s A Riot” is out on Friday, July 27 and will be launched with a run of shows and a slot at the BigSound Music conference.

Tour runs by Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Bondi, Canberra, Newcastle, Sydney.

Emma Louise – ‘Boy’

Listen up boy! If Emma Louise believes in you then best you pick yourself up, live up to your potential and stop disappointing this girl. OK. Good. Now that that’s outta the way, ‘Boy’ is the new single by Emma Louise. Another fine example of her incredible voice and intimate song writing ability. This is a rather restrained track that is as catchy as ‘Jungle’ but deploys more smokey vocals with subtle instrumental hooks and beats that compliment her melody. ‘Boy’ speaks of youth, love, hope and distance and will no doubt feature on a lot of winter soundtracks.

Emma Louise has also announced a string of East Coast tour dates – sure to sell out so check it fast – http://www.facebook.com/musicemmalouise

Argentina – ‘Chalk Outlines’ mp3

Listen to

Argentina is producer Alex Ritchie, from the rainy city of Brisbane. Whilst I think he overdid the production slightly on this single, its a hooky sound. He has gathered a band together for some dates and I will def get along to see how this plays out live. There is a happy dance feel mixed with sulky vocals but that seems to appeal to the kids so you’ll love the heartfelt plea to “be happy all the time”.

Tour Dates:

20th April – FBi Social, Kings Cross Hotel, Sydney.

21st April – Workers Club, Fitzroy, Melbourne.

Oh Ye Denver Birds – 'I Believe In Love, Kid'

, , No Comment

So many happy tones wiggling their way brain-wise from this tune ‘I Believe In Love, Kid‘. Oh Ye Denver Birds made the song, Allyson Alapont made a clip and it was pleasant and exciting for everyone involved (I assume). Electronically affected indie is all over the place and largely gross, foul and uninspiring – not so of Oh Ye Denver Birds. To quote, this shit is bananas – and bananas are good. Plus the clip is a smiley, pleasant walk through indie-fun-times.

Oh Ye Denver Birds are radcore, and have a funtastic (albiet small) back-catalogue. They’re supporting Megastick Fanfare all over the country right now until the end of October, so you’ll get your chance to feast on these fowl. Thank me later.
