Mildlife’s ‘Very Fantastic Mix Vol #1’

, , No Comment

Mildlife is currently working on a new record and whilst their creative juices are flowing they have been playing around with cool 70/80’s afro, funk, disco soul tracks. Y’know, cool tunes to dance around and keep up the right vibe for laying down their sweet melodies. Naturally enough they thought it would be nice to share with friends. So they mixed a 45 minute jam of obscure vinyl slices for your listening pleasure with artwork designed by Joy Studio who art direct for Spook mag. It’s a pretty neat gift, so plug in your stereo and get your friends together to get down with Mildlife’s ‘Very Fantastic Mix Vol #1’.

World’s End Press – ‘Second Day Uptown’

Listen to

Lighten your Monday with happiness delivered from Melbourne’s World’s End Press. Driven by their live jammin and disco party sound, W.E.P. have a dapper new single on digital release. Despite working on a new record for some time, it seems the boys aren’t ready to make any full length release dates just yet. I don’t think they’re playing hard to get, they just haven’t quite distilled their live sound into a recording yet. ‘Second Day Uptown’ represents what W.E.P. do very well and that is to get your ass dancing. It’s got that distinct bass groove and familiar vocal with a little gospel style, praise the lord keys that have you waving you hands in the air with smiley face joy. This is a tune to go out big on so enjoy lovers.

Ainslie Wills – ‘Fighting Kind’ – Video

You may recall Ainslie Wills’ earlier song ‘Wide Load’ a very nice track that earned her triple J’s love. Her new single is ‘Fighting Kind’ and I really like the progression of this track. Ainslie builds the tension through her exceptional vocal control and tells the story by drawing you in, layering up the sparse drumming and then pulling back with subtle guitar work by Lawrence Folvig. I get good tingles hearing Australian talent like Ainslie Wills. I’m not going to make obvious comparisons because Ainslie has her own sound that is big, dramatic and dripping with soul. Ainslie will be launching ‘Fighting Kind’ on Sat 12th May at The Worker’s Club in Melbourne if you are lucky enough to be local – get to it friends. This track is the first single from her debut LP, to be titled ‘You go your way, I’ll go mine’ due out later this year.
