Miami Horror – Don’t Be On With Her (EP Version) (mp3)

Listen to

Miami Horror pretty much blew everyone’s mind from the start, just by being called Miami Horror EVEN THOUGH he’s a producer from Melbourne (kinda like when everyone freaked about The Streets being JUST ONE GUY). Then he cemented the name he had made for himself with unapolagetically synth-heavy remixes – bootleg and official – of a crazywide array of artists from Perth’s The Dirty Secrets to France’s Stardust (FACT: his remix of Stardust’s dancefloor destroyer ‘music sounds better with you’ has appeared in every indie DJ set at some point).

And now here he is with the official release of his first single – ‘Don’t be on with her’. I say “official”, because the vocal-less demo of this cut has been floating around the blogosphere for a few months now. If you missed that, consider the finished result as a good place to start with Miami Horror – a track that continues where Midnight Juggernauts’ ’45 and Rising’ left off.

Grafton Primary – ‘Records for the Righteous’

For a while there, it was all too easy to pigeonhole Sydney’s Grafton Primary as “just another synth band”, and ignore them. After spending some time with their debut ‘Eon’ however, I’m a whole lot more intrigued.

Check opening track ‘Records for the Righteous’ for instance – a song that recalls both NIN and LCD Soundsystem, and an assured statement of intent from a band with some newfound promise up their sleeves (and probably a few synthesizers).

Tame Impala – ‘Skeleton Tiger’ (mp3)

So Tame Impala have decided to giveaway a free track on their giveaway-a-track-for-an-email collection site. A few months ago we posted on a cover of “Remember Me” that they posted on myspace, and was eventually asked to take it down. So I guess the lesson in this is, if you don’t want people to rip it and republish, don’t post it up anywhere on the internet. Tame Impala is touring with You Am I, and then MGMT and playing a few summer festival, debut EP out October 11th.

Sneaky Sound System – 'When We Were Young' (Dept remix)

Sneaky Sound System – ‘When We Were Young’ (Dept remix) (taken down by artist request)

A lot of people are surprised to find that Sneaky Sound System actually put on a good live show. Amongst all that electronic production, cut up vocals and synthesisers, it’s easy to forget that the members of the band actually come from live band backgrounds, especially the impressive vocalist Connie Mitchell who were playing for the band Primary in the late 90s. Some people are surprised that I’m actually a fan of this band, but as you know by now I love a good pop song. This track is taken from SSS’s second album, and it’s one of the remixes to come out of this second single. It’s done by Sydney remixing duo Dept, one half of which is Sydney’s best known partyboy PhDJ.
