Art vs. Science – ‘Flippers’

Listen to

Sydneysiders Art vs. Science seem to have a very clear game plan. They make upbeat music for excitable people. Their style is uncomplicated, energetic and most critically, fun. They even provide simple to follow instructions on how best to enjoy it. This, for example, is what you should do when listening to Flippers:

1) I see you dancing with your flippers
2) I see you swimming with your flippers
3) I see you clapping with you flippers
4) Getting Happy with your flippers.

Of course you don’t have to follow these rather cryptic instructions. You could just wave your hands and feet in a way that would look unbelievably stupid if you were to do it in any other context. Ah, the liberating quality of music. Everybody should know what it feels like to dance like a giant penguin in the snow.

Er, excuse me rob balkin, as far as I’m aware they’ve never played a gig at the oxford art factory, so you must have your bands mixed up – anyway, the song rocks, as do the band

Don’t be fooled in to thinking that Art Vs Science are all about the flippers song, these guys play an impressive set full of quality, catchy songs. I saw these guys with Van She and then with the Galvatrons last night and they were brilliant. I have never seen a support band get such a great crowd reaction! This music makes you want to dance, is fun and exciting- and furthermore, the energy that these guys give off on stage is fantastic. If you ever get a chance, watch them live , and I hope these guys become successful, cause they deserve it

Great song it is, pity though that JJJ have played the sh.t out of it for the past 3 months and totally ruined it for me. They seem to do this with many great songs, especially when the artists are signed to them. HIGH ROTATION IS FOR SHORT TERMS ONLY KINGSMILL!!!

Or maybe I just need to listen to other stations :/

This band combined with Amy Meridith represent what is wrong with Australian music. No originality or talent. The most numbingly boring live set ever.

This song ROCKS! My partner is part of a swim club and I’m getting everyone to sing this at comps. Everyone laughs. This is catchy, dancy, and just plain great fun. It’s one of the happiest things to listen to. I’m buying everything they have for sale (seriously) just to support them.

These guys are stunning. They recently played out our college and had the best crowd rapport I have ever seen. Having beer sculling competitions with each other before songs and making people dance so intense they nearly killed themselves is an amazing skill. Hollywood is there best song live.

These guys are great for a party but when it comes to music making they’re pretty average. I’ve been checking out there myspace, and the songs, even though they’re all not exactly the same, do get a bit boring, and there isn’t really anything original about them. There are so many other more interesting artists around at the moment.

These guys opened Good Vibes 09 in Sydney and started tearing the place up before everyone had even got in the gates. I’m yet to get my hands on their release (out just last Friday), but if their live set is anything to go by it’s going to be explosive.

The only reason I like this band is because they made me laugh so f’n hard at splendour last year. Promising sounds, but once they started singing I was in stitches. Stop practicing in front of the mirror boys! They must be taking the piss. I mean, why else would they write that shit?

    I LOVE these guys!!!!
Nicest boys I’ve ever hung out with – only have good memories with them.
They took me out for graduation when they were in another band. Fantastic boys and deserve the best life brings them.
    All the best guys xxx
And their music is just as hot as they are. Say what you want Rob, but I don’t think you’d be their type anyway 😉 As for any other morons ripping them down – get a life! These guys worked their arses off to make this dream a reality.

Good on them for making music they enjoy and getting this far, but personally i would have to agree with Sanch, Chick13 etc…
They just make generic sounding scene dance pop and receiver a huge amount of hype for it.
I know this appeals to a lot of people but i just think its a shame that there are so many other hugely talented bands pushing the boundaries that are given no coverage whatsoever.
This isnt a personal attack on the band, but its what i believe.
