To those not familiar with the name, Belinda Emmett was an ex Home and Away soapie actress/singer who recently passed away, losing a tabloid covered battle against cancer. She was Rove McManus’s wife, host to the popular talk show on free to air TV channel 10. Her family recently released an mp3 of a recording meant to be part of her solo album which she never finished. The Age described it as a ‘heart wrenching ballad’. While circumstance and a media love-in drew me to the song more than its musical merit, I find it interesting that her family decided to publish the song online as a free download. Did they do it to share their grief with the masses of tabloid readers and Rove fans? Do people do that nowadays, when a family member passes? Put out mp3s on the net instead of just playing sad songs in funerals? The last funeral I went to a few years back was for a friend whose band I was involved with, he also lost his fight to cancer at 25 years old. The remaining band members sang him a song in the church. They didn’t record and put out an mp3 online. Would it have made anyone better if they did?

These kinds of situations put us bloggers in sticky situations dont they. Very hard to come out and throw a blog rant about how bad a song is when it is kind of a momento given to us in memory of someone.
I’ll get shot down for this but I think the song stinks, but I dont think thats the point is it. She was a true golden girl, none of that delta or kylie bullshit, Emmett was another class.
I never thought id actually feel bad for Rove about anything… ever.
agreed with pix, the only thing stopping me from ripping into the track is you know, the whole recent funeral situation.
Rove, though, well he’s another story. his funnyness died a long time ago…
Come on guys. She’s dead. He’s in a world of pain.
Emma wanted her music to be heard by everyone and i dont think she would of cared if you had of liked it or not.
I agree with Nadia. She wanted her music heard and its devastating that she never got to see people to enjoy her music - because even if it’s not your cup of tea for a lot of people it is.
I enjoyed the song, just as I enjoyed watching Belinda on H&A. She was just a beautiful kind person.
Enough said.

I think it was a beautiful gesture to share this song with people who care about her. How can one critique this negatively, I just do not understand . I did not know it was her singing at first ,it is just good, really good. Someone else could have produced it but there was not a thing wrong with the song or her voice style, lovely. I would have bought it to listen to easily. I am sad she is gone what a sweet young woman who has left a void in her place that her family can’t fill. The songs is again very good.
