Cameras – ‘Polarise’ (mp3)

Listen to

Cameras, hey? I’d heard their name mentioned quite a bit, but I’d no idea how active these been these past 18 months. According to their press release, three of their initial demos received airplay on JJJ and FBi, they had an iTunes single of the week, had tunes on an MTV show, scored and toured the musical accompaniment to NIDA’s production of ‘Motel,’ and played numerous summer festival last year. I’m sure more attuned A&R dudes around Australia have been paying closer attention and have been sniffing around Cameras for a while.

‘Polarise’ is a taster track from their forthcoming debut EP. It manages to land somewhere in that area of clean and professional, but never sounds sterile or clinical. It’s a moody number that treads a fine line between the ‘mainstream’ and ‘alt’ camps, and will probably parts of both.  An impressive tune, but the band is only two years old and could probably do with a bit more time to find their own niche slightly more before they get some serious attention. For now, here’s a song that sounds a bit like a bunch of other bands – except, you know, better.
