Last Boat Mp3

Listen to

I came across Montpelier a little while ago with their self titled EP in 2009, initial thoughts of Coldplay and Arcade Fire as points of departure, but certainly strong song writers to keep an eye on. The bands new material has improved out of sight, working with Aria nominated producer Tim Powles (Regular John, The Church) has had an impact on the bands direction, with production quality and moving closer to their own unique sound. The first single, Last Boat, employs the epic intro, building up to the rather huge beat that drops to get the head nodding. The album demos also sound very promising. Check it out.

The boys are setting out on a Mini tour to support the single, so check the myspace for deets!

Miracle – ‘Better Days’

Listen to

I’ve recently discovered this 18 year old rapper born in Ghana but now residing in western Sydney. The word is that he got signed to his label based on this song based on Pete Murray‘s track Better Days, a track he made for his high school music assignment, which is very impressive. He also has a track sampling Angus and Julia Stone‘s very popular Big Jet Plane

Kite Club – ‘Very Necessary’ (mp3)

Listen to

You may recall Kite Club from Matt’s post a few months ago. Certain to say, that penchant for large scale production hasn’t been lost in the proceedings. Enter Goodtime Tea Show.

‘La La Melode’ summons your attention as soon as that wad of synth-spiritualism drops. Those galloping beats in the intro reminds me of watching Gypsy & The Cat in the giant ampitheatre at Splendour, and I’m pretty sure this tune would echo out just as magically given the same settings. The melody here sits like an off-kilter folk hymnal and holds up the arrangement of the song really well, while the same goes for the falsetto intervention in ‘Very Necessary’. The latter does creep into MGMT territory, but is crammed with a myriad of instrumentals (check out that horn section!) to pique your interest for long enough. With Passion Pit/Naked & Famous camps moving into the commercial radio league, I can definitely see this dude pleasing the masses. Futcher’s showed great flair and craftmanship here and I’ll be surprised if the summer festivals don’t poach him to the bill soon. Feel good vibes all ‘round.
