Late last year, we introduced you to Milhowse, the Melbourne-based electronic artist, with a sound seemingly unable to be pinned down. But here he is with a new track (yay!), ‘Bad Lands’. He’s tagged it under ‘neurotic’, but we’ll let you decipher it for yourself, because I’m sick of filing this under trip-hop.

Unity Floors are a band I’d probably move to Sydney for. They’ve been kicking around for a few years, but it’s all happy happy Pop Frenzy signing week to these dudes. If you’re not familiar with UF, think back to the time when Shogun’s treacle first slid through your lobes and into the part of your soul flung out on a stained mattress in the armpit of suburbia. Can’t wait for this LP.

Last year, Children Collide’s Johnny Mackay shaved his head, moved to NYC, did some stuff, became an accidental correspondent for Hurricane Sandy.
He’s back now, and after doing a run of Children Collide shows over December, he’s been working on solo stuff under Fascinator. Not before stopping by Lincraft and chomping some Barbituates though. Next level. Enjoy.

80s revivalist and unnerving moustache-wearer Donny Benet is hosting four ‘Dinner & Duets’ every Wednesday this month at GoodGod in Sydney – the basic caper is that he plays some of his stuff, then a musical guest joins to duet for the second half.
His partner in musical crimes tonight is the usually-a-bit-more-naked Kirin J Callinan. Predictably, it’s like watching Rick Astley himself getting Rick-rolled by Thurston Moore. Or the other way round. Or something else that the internet would no doubt enjoy – I’m thinking particularly of their cover of Prince’s “Love, Thy Will Be Done”, equal parts ridiculous and brilliant.
Tell you what though – Donny Benet may be a bit funny-looking, but he can play like nothing you’ve ever seen. Or at least, he looks like nothing you’ve ever seen when he plays. The daft antics with the guest is great theatre to be sure – and pairing Callinan’s squalling guitars with Benet’s drum machine and Moog is wildly and titanically daft – but the musical talent behind the sillines of his own material just blazes straight on through.
Huge, huge fun – and it beats the breakfast out of going to see the same old landfill every week. There’s some more photos after the jump to prove it.

Glamour Lakes is the moniker of Adelaide based Michael Radzevicius. Canicule is his new EP, and we’re pretty stoked to be giving you the first listen on the interwebs. Originally one half of electronica duo with Anny Duff of Bing Goes to Monaco, Radzevicius previously released three EPs under his former project, Glisk.
Although he hasn’t completely cast that sparse, astral sound brought with Glisk into the void, Canicule fills out at full capacity. It’s cluttered – not in a distracting way, but the type that’s not unlike the same rhythm of distant chatter whirring around in your audible subconscious between sleeping states.
Glamour Lakes’ music is informed by Vatican Shadow, Arthur Russell and a collection of records from the Sincerely Yours label. He also mentions an “ongoing predilection for travelling to World Heritage sites”. It’s probably my predisposition for more organic sounds, but I’ve always found the whole nature thing disjointed from the intention, mathematical sentiment of electronic music. I did take a liking to this EP though. When I first heard this, I happened to be looking up images of Bioluminescence in the Gippsland Lakes which was quite fitting.
‘Have Answers’ and ‘Boundless’ embody a weird electricity in their sound. It’s that same aura that runs right through this EP; sounds collide, intensify and decay all at once and still keep their distance. An intriguing release that’s probably going to sound best on vinyl and played in a small dark room, or maybe somewhere in the open near some glowing phenomena.
Canicule is released on the 14th Jan via Brisbane based label Silo Arts + NYC label Frenchkiss.

Country and punk have always gone together like vodka and orange juice: never classy, but a cheap way to have a fucking great time. Brisbane’s Lovely Legs deliver this deadly combo with rare spite and snarl, and they’ve teamed up with local dirty garage punks Cannon to give us a split cassette of fantastic angry songs about shitty people and self-loathing (well, from the couple of lyrics I can understand). Lovely Legs’ side is all cracked out and accusatory; the way Alex Dunlop half screams, half drawls on ‘I Ain’t Goin’ To Waste’ is downright threatening. ‘Dumb’ is the standout track, with its stomping bass line and messy, shrieking guitar while the drums crash right through your brain and Dunlop sings – “all I touch turns to shit/ I don’t mind when I’m lyin’ in it”.
Cannon’s side is a reissue of their Blerndaddy EP from earlier in the year, but their blunt, guileless tracks are still the most charming kind of atrocious noise out there. If you like music with a little more spit than shine, chances are you’ll dig the hell out of this.
