LISTEN: Terrible Truths – ‘Don Juan’

, , No Comment

Oh Don Juan. Geez I love this track. Terrible Truths have a sweet new 7″ release out through Mexican Summer. It features the new cut ‘Don Juan’ and a track I posted previously ‘Lift Weights’. I’m pretty into this sound right now. I previously made a comparison to Grass Widow but I now feel this band together with other Melbourne/Adelaide post-punk outfits, Bad Dreems, Velcro, Tiny Spiders etc. are fast becoming the reference point that bands like Grass Widow will be referred to. So what I’m saying is; Australian bands are killing the indie-pop rock sound around the world. Catch Terrible Truths this weekend in Brisbane at this ridiculously good gig:

Bridge Club, Saturday August 25 with New War (Melb), The Garbage & the Flowers (Syd/NZ), Rat King (Newcastle) & Cannon

Pick up the 7″ on their BandCamp here – http://terribletruths.bandcamp.com/album/lift-weights-7-2012-mexican-summer

Ainslie Wills

New image making talent Rachela (Rah-Kela) covered the lovely Ainslie Wills playing GoodGod Small club in Sydney last week. Ainslie was plugging her very accomplished single ‘Stop Pulling The String’ with support from Caitlin Park.

If you missed the show don’t fret, you can catch Ainslie on Rockwiz (remember how good Megan Washington was) screening on SBS:

Saturday 1 September doing a very special Johnny Cash duet with rapper 360. Seriously that will be amazing.

Pick up the single from itunes linked here – /www.ainsliewills.com.

Chet Faker plays FBI Social – in Pictures

, , No Comment

Chet Faker treated FBI radio supporters to an intimate live performance before his sold out gig at the Oxford Art Factory tonight. We sent along another talented new contributor Alex Kirk to document Chet’s beard. Alex reckons it was one of those shows that felt like a bunch of friends hanging out to celebrate Chet’s “looping beats, under his growly soul and that gorgeous Wurlitzer keyboard”. Sounds like a good one. Check the dates left on his tour:

Fri 17 August – Trinity Bar, Canberra (TICKETS AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR)
with support from Thrupence

Fri 24 August (SOLD-OUT) – Cats @ Rocket Bar, with support from Thrupence

Fri 7 September (SOLD-OUT) – Revolt, Melbourne with support from Thrupence

Sat 8 September (SOLD-OUT) – Revolt, Melbourne with support from Thrupence

City Riots – ‘Wait For You’ (mp3)

Darren Levin recently coined the term ‘chillmate’ and City Riots have decorated this genre with more slacker-indie pop from Adelaide. ‘Wait for you’ employs more of an atmospheric sound than say Bad Dreems and that is probably due to listening to heaps of M83 – tell me I’m wrong? I like the influence; it creates some seperation from the other bands I’ve been playing a lot of lately. My only concern is they may be involved in some sort of hair cult or maybe they just used someone’s sister as hair stylist. Anyho, there is a real nice story-telling romance in this track and hopefully the long player, that is due in October, delivers even more.

CITY RIOTS ‘WAIT FOR YOU’ TOUR

Friday, August 31st | MUM at World Bar, Sydney

Saturday, September 15th | The Liberty Social, Melbourne

Friday, September 21st | Rocket Bar, Adelaide

and supporting Hunting Grounds

Friday, August 18th | Rocket Bar, Adelaide
