Chartfixer

The biggest news in Australian music press today is the website chartfixer.com, whereby artists or labels can pay for the site’s services to move their songs up the ARIA charts. As ridiculous as this sounds, the reaction from all corners reminds us that chart rigging practices are not unheard of.

Fasterlouder has a good few comments for their coverage of the story. Today/Tonight even has a little vid you can watch here.

Meanwhile, industry writer Ben Butler sums up the financials of Australian major labels in 2009 on the Herald Sun

Charlie Why – ‘I Am Deliciously Wired’ (mp3)

[audiohttp://whothehell.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/I-Am-Deliciously-Wired-Ch.mp3]

The latest release in Bang Gang’s 12″ series is by the prolific Charlie Why (aka Charlie Murdoch aka 50% of production/remix team Rio Lobotomy aka 25% of Brisbane indie upstarts Comic Sans). Charlie Why is Murdoch’s solo project and above is the title track from his long-awaited debut EP, which acts as an apt introduction to his ultra-compressed and thumping electro-house leanings.

‘I Am Deliciously Wired’ is painted with a few broad brush strokes and lands like a punch in the face – which isn’t to say that this is background music for morons. Despite its immediacy, the track sounds considered and thoughtfully constructed, moving forward with purpose as variously sounds move in and out of the near perfect mix. Good stuff.

Dappled Cities 'Zounds' exhibition

, , No Comment

The ‘Wooden Ships‘ video above is part of stripped back studio footage that appears on Dappled Cities first DVD release, which will surface later on this year.

Our favourite falsetto wielding lads are voyaging back to Oz after 3 months of touring around the US, UK and Hong Kong. Following the success of ‘Zounds’, they’ll be ditching the pims and cucumber sandwiches at their London HQ to dash home for an Australian tour in support of their new single ‘Wooden Ships’. Click here for the full list of tour dates.

Dappled Cities will also be curating an exhibition of commissioned artworks inspired by the music from ‘Zounds’. It’s happening at MART Gallery in Sydney during this week, so if you’re in the vicinity, make sure you stop by.
